The general term that covers the wide range or hundreds of alternative medicines and therapies is called bodywork. These would involve manipulative therapies exemplified by massage, breath work such as yoga and meditation, and energy medicine typified by Reiki. In other words, bodywork therapies work in connection with energy fields and physical body, and in promoting mind-body connection.

What bodywork practitioners would focus during the therapy would be on releasing stress, anxiety and negative emotions, by conducting different techniques of massage, or yoga, or other breathing exercises. Bodywork teachings and books would often state that our emotions are behind our common ailments like aches, pains and illnesses in our bodies. Therefore, if we treat our emotions with the non-touch and manipulative techniques, our sense of well-being will be healthier and improved.
